Swag Magazine CA Article-Marcus Poke (Comedian)

Marcus Miles, raised in Richmond, Ca, has an alter ego Poke who comes alive and takes over the minute his foot hits the stage.  Poke is a charismatic character with a slick tongue who speaks on different real life issues that can be related to by many.  Whether it’s the experience he had to endure with his divorce or a strange shopping trip, Poke brings to life the story and puts his unique and very funny spin to it.  Poke does not just tell stories; he brings it to life with his imagination and a style that can only be described as rapid fire comedy!

Having had an intense upbringing, Marcus used comedy to escape from his reality.  Being more shy and reserved as a teenager, he quickly learned to use his wit and humor in order to charm the ladies.  As he became increasingly more comfortable using comedy as a form of expression and communication, he decided to take it up a notch by entering the stand-up comedy realm.  He began entering different open mic nights and getting the laughs he so craved.  Marcus truly believes that through laughter you can relieve stress and add years to your life.  Every time he steps onto the stage, he does it with the mission to captivate his audience so they may lose themselves and be able to enjoy life through laughter.

Marcus works for the University of California San Francisco Cancer Medical Center and strives to bring joy to the patients who are going through life and death matters.  He believes that if he can make one patient laugh and smile during trying times then he has accomplished what he was set on this Earth to do.  He takes that same exuberant zest for life and parlays it into his comedic set with open and candor conversations.  Fearless, like his idol Richard Pryor, Poke is a no holds bar comedian who will touch on any subject without a hint of hesitation.

He is able to display an array of electrifying comic skills to capture and hold the audience’s attention.  Being fully comfortable and confident in who he is, Poke becomes a larger than life character who gets to the punch line quickly and in a dramatic manner.  Having set his mind to be one of the best to touch the stage, he will go to all lengths to get the laughs and applause, no matter the type of audience he encounters.  Whether his comedic career leads him to perform on Saturday Night Live and in huge arenas or it leads him to perform in front of a small audience in a dive bar; Poke considers it to be a blessing to be able to do what he loves best, which is to bring laughter to his audience!
