Swag Magazine CA Article-Bay To LA Bobby-Lo Performs At Zumba Event

From the Bay to LA, Bobby Lo aka Chop traveled down the coast in pursuit of his dreams.  Unlike most artists, Chop didn't come to Los Angeles without a plan.   After working hard, he was accepted into the world renowned Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA, for the Audio Engineering and Post Production programs.  Chop has been working diligently to not only improve his skills as a producer and engineer but also learn from the best instructors that M.I. has to offer in order to elevate his skills to the next level.  Chop's mother, Phyllis McGlasson, always stressed the importance of receiving an education all while pursuing his dreams.  Phyllis, who now owns her on event planning/PR/marketing company, was also influential factor as Chop discovered his love for music due to the fact that she worked for Young Black Brother Records as an image consultant and artist development.  During her time with Young Black Brother Records, Chop was exposed to such artists as Mac Mal, Young Lay and Ray Luv.  He was greatly influenced by 2 Pac and Bay Area artists, Too Short and E-40 as a youth, deciding that one day he would rock the mic like they do!

Chop prides himself in being "Anti-Box", a term he deemed as someone who doesn't fit into a category, someone who can't be labeled.  He wants to be known for his creative rhyme scheme and interesting word play.  So many artists lose their passion for the love of the music which shows through in the type of music that they record.  When listening to Chop's music, you can feel what he is trying to convey through his lyrics whether it's pain, happiness, or inspirational stories of overcoming difficult times. He is able to paint a picture through his words that can be followed clearly.  With a husky and unique tone to his voice, you can't help but pay attention when Chop laces his bars into the melody.

When recording such songs as "Emotionless" and "I'm Gone", Chop is able to record timeless music that people from any ethnic background, age, and social class; can relate to.  This was proven when an instructor from Zumba Fitness, by the name of Midori Miller got a hold of Chop's music and asked "Who is this? I love the message in his music!"  With this statement began a key relationship of show casing Chop's music at Zumba classes and major events such as the one that took place on September 17th, 2011 which was the first time Chop was asked to perform at a major Zumba event led by Walter "Wally" Diaz, who is one of the founding choreographers of Zumba Fitness.  During this event, Chop was really able to not only perform for an audience who was exposed to his style of music for the very first time, yet he was also able to connect with people he would have never guessed would really be open to his style of music.  The audience was dancing and really vibing with Chop as he got on stage and captivated them.

During this event, Swag Magazine was also introduced to key instructors of Zumba Fitness such as Midori Miller, Raquel Call, and Amelia "Mia" Said.  We decided to dig deeper and learn from the above mentioned instructors, about this new life style that is sweeping the nation which also integrates Hip Hop music into their work out routines.  Midori Miller has been an instructor with Zumba Fitness for the past four years and states that, "Zumba established its unique position in the fitness industry that is total mind and body workout without laying on the mat for meditation.  You sweat, you laugh, and connect with your wiggle partners in class."  Midori integrates Hip Hop artists such as Chop's music along with soulful music, Reggae, and African inspired music into the classes she teaches. Being in incredible shape herself, one can only wonder what type of diet needs to be followed when participating in Zumba classes.  Midori surprisingly eats all types of food without worrying about the calories.  The type of diet one follows is up to them and the nutritionist they consult.  Raquel Call, who is also another incredible instructor with Zumba, began her journey by using Zumba Fitness as a way of fighting her depression and panic attacks.  After her first class, Raquel decided right then and there that she wanted to become a Zumba instructor so she may help people that can use Zumba as a positive, healthy, and fun means of fighting depression.  Raquel suggests that one should eat right by consuming lots of vegetables, fruits, and protein while attending Zumba classes.  When teaching her classes she integrates a variety of music such as Maranga, Sumba, Salsa, as well as mainstream techno music.  Last but not least, Amelia "Mia" Said, has been an instructor with Zumba for the last five years and lives by this motto which she recites to her students at the beginning of each class; "Dance like no one is watching, love like you haven't been hurt, and live like there is no tomorrow".  This statement truly captures the true essence of the people who attend Zumba classes.  They come together as a unit to enjoy dance and workout without worrying about missing a step.  Having instructors such as Mia who reinforce an atmosphere of positivity and happiness helps make Zumba a leading choice in workout routines which has becomes more of a life style for those who participate.  Mia loves playing techno-dance music and Reggaeton, which is a Latin version of Hip Hop, during her classes.  Midori, Raquel, and Mia, all share a common bond for the passion they have for Zumba fitness and also their love for music.  They welcomed Chop with open arms and even instructed the participants with Zumba dance choreography while Chop was on stage performing.

Being proactive with your career is a key factor in succeeding as an independent artist.  Chop was able to create a relationship with a corporate fitness company, Zumba Fitness, and has been invited to perform at their major events several times.  Creating such lasting relationships can open an artist to a whole new demographic and can provide a new form of income.  Chop is a prime example that when you conduct yourself in a professional manner and educate yourself, you will be able to find different avenues of having your music heard.  Determination, hard work, a willing and open nature, and possessing a charismatic personality are all qualities that Chop has been blessed with which will surely lead him to obtain a successful and lucrative career in the music industry!

Swag Magazine CA Article- Marz Intrusion

"POW BITCHEZ" Enters Marz with a style that of her own and a language foreign to my ears.  She tells me that she traveled many moons away, from a planet called Marz with a (Z).  She starts flowing, effortlessly switching up her voice and speed accordingly to a beat that sounds like it was produced by a Martian.  Marz portrays a new generation of rap music that embodies fashion, rap, hustling, and gravitates towards beats that sound like nothing that's already in the main stream music scene.  For Marz it's more than music, it's a lifestyle!

She has been working with a producer with a few credits under his belt, by the name of Sonny Rey.  Together they make an interesting team of innovators who will surely shake up the music scene.  Marz wants to create the type of music that you can escape into and blast off into the galaxy.  When asked who are some of her collaborators on her upcoming mixtape which will be dropping early next year, with a straight face she tells me; ET and its "A HIT"!

Marz has a twisted sense of humor which shows through her music on songs such as, "Pow Bitches".  She also exudes this confidence that most artists lack.  You can see it in her fashion as well.  She has been designing her own clothes for years and has goals to also break into the fashion industry in a major way.  This is only the beginning for this alien who has been unleashed upon us Earthlings to mesmerize us with her out of this world music!

Swag Magazine CA Article: "Indie Power Krayzie Bone & Typhoon"

During a time when the methods used to promote an artist in the music industry is changing at a rapid rate and the major labels are declining in numbers; the independent labels are increasing, evolving for the better, and succeeding.  No artist has experienced the ups and downs of this industry better than Krayzie Bone formerly of the super Hip Hop group Bone Thugs & Harmony which were signed by Eazy E of NWA.  Krayzie's career has spanned over a twenty year period earning him a Grammy win as well as an American Awards win.  Having been signed to major record labels in the past, Krayzie Bone has witnessed the difference between being on a major label versus an independent label.
Along with former band mate Wish Bone, Krayzie launched an independent label called The Life Entertainment in 2011.  Having the freedom to produce the type of music he wants as well as promoting in the manner that he wishes gives him the type of control he never had while being on a major label.  "With power comes great responsibility", as Krazyie states! Meaning that he has to be both an executive as well as an artist.  As an executive Krayzie has free reign to sign any type of artist who fits his criteria.  When asked what the criteria is, he stated that he's looking for artists who are unique, versatile, and proactive with their careers.
One such artist who has been affiliated with The Life Entertainment, is Typhoon, a lyricist originating from the Bay area.  Typhoon has been a recording artist for years, independently promoting his own music as well as touring with such artists as Krayzie Bone.  Having been born with the "Entrepreneurial Spirit", Typhoon runs his own independent label called Blocstorm Entertainment; as well the following clothing lines: Huckle Buck, Huckle Berry and Huckle Baby.  Having released several mixtapes, he is now working on his album titled "The Black Rose", which as he calls it, is an inspirational album that has been recorded in order to motivate others to reach for greatness and obtain their goals!  Penning such singles as: "A Letter 2 The President", "Black Rose", "Success", and "Legend"; Typhoon plans to uplift society by providing music they can vibe to during this economic decline which has left many jobless and hopeless.  He speaks to the youth by showing them that you don't have to turn to the street life as a way to make money.  Typhoon expresses the importance of receiving an education and teaching yourself how run a business successfully.  He has learned how to properly network, promote, and link up with other independent labels and executives who have been influential within his career.  Typhoon states that meeting and working with Krayzie Bone has been a blessing in that he has been able to learn from a veteran in the music industry.  Krayzie has shared his knowledge with Typhoon as to the methods that should be used when recording then marketing and promoting your music to the masses.
Krayzie is gearing up to release his solo album in the first quarter of 2012 titled, "Chasing The Devil".  When describing the album he states that it's music that can help you when struggling with challenging issues life may bring your way and how to properly overcome them.  He would also like people to be aware of the fact that some artists are selling their souls in order to accomplish their dreams all while being robbed by the industry.  He wants artists to hold themselves accountable for the message they are placing into their music and releasing it.  He says,  "Music in itself is very powerful and the message you put into your music is even more powerful."  The type of artists he signs are those who are aware of the type of lyrical content they place into their music.  Krayzie currently has three artists who are signed to The Life Entertainment.  These artists range from a 13 year old pop singer who writes deep and meaningful lyrics; to a 16 year old singer/songwriter from Australia who also plays the piano and guitar, to a singer/rapper with a twist of rock influence in her music.  Krayzie Bone signs artists who are multi-talented, versatile, and unique.  He doesn't want an artist who sounds like someone else in the industry, he wants artists who create their own lane and differentiate themselves from the pack!
Krayzie Bone wants every artist to educate themselves on the business side of the music industry.  He stresses the importance of learning how to read a contract and to always have an entertainment attorney review a contract.  He states that so many artists enter into the music industry without any knowledge about the business side of the industry and they enter into the industry  for the hype that the media over exaggerates.  The love and passion for recording quality music with substance is lacking nowadays which leaves a lot of artists to be one hit wonders or fade out after one album, two if they are lucky!  With major labels no longer really developing artists, an artist needs to have a team who will take care to really groom the artist before they decide to release said artist into the main stream market space.  He stresses the importance of formulating a well thought out plan for promotion and marketing to properly push a single or album.  He wants artists to research online means of promotion and utilize all the sites available to an artist.  Having a budget for proper PR and promotional assistance makes a world of difference when creating a buzz for an artist who is releasing music for sale.  Using such sites as Swag Magazine CA and establishing their own website will magnify their online presence.  Utilizing online sources himself, gives Krayzie Bone an open range to creatively promote not only his artists and record label but also his clothing line called The Life Apparel which can be found online at http://www.thelifeapparel.com.
For years Typhoon has been recording his music and creating his own movement not only in the Bay area but performing in different venues throughout the states.  He uses any opportunity he can find online to promote his music.  Typhoon is also a very compassionate individual who uses any chance he gets to give back to his community and speak to the youth in order for them to maintain living on a positive path.  He also involves himself with charities so he may give back to society and leave behind a legacy that will make his family proud!  Typhoon's message to his supporters is to stay focused, put together a complete and well thought out presentation, all while staying true to your main goals.  Krayzie Bone wants to thank his fans who have stayed loyal and shown love from day one through all the changes he has gone through with Bone Thugs & Harmony as well as within his solo career.  Both Krayzie Bone and Typhoon have created independent labels and are pursuing a career free of any restrictions.  They produce the type of music they want and release it in the manner that they see fit which is the positive side of owning your own independent label versus signing with a major label.  Krayzie Bone and Typhoon are creating a great formula for other independent artists to follow! Be sure to continue supporting Krazyie Bone and familiarize yourself with Bay area's very own star, Typhoon!
